Abstract

Ovaj diplomski rad proučava život i stvaralaštvo Ivane Brlić-Mažuranić. Kronološki se prikazuje njen rast, razvoj i samoostvarenje kao majke i spisateljice. Ivana potječe iz ugledne građanske obitelji Mažuranića. Netko tko ne zna puno o njezinom životu i borbama, pomislio bi da je živjela lagodno i bez ikakvih briga. No, duboko u sebi je proživljavala sputavanje vlastitih želja i ideala. Prvenstveno je težila postizanju mira u duši. Stoga ovaj rad objedinjuje prikupljene spoznaje o načinu života, mukotrpnom postizanju uspjeha i mogućim razlozima tragičnog završetka. Afirmirala se u književnom razdoblju hrvatske moderne u kojem žene nisu imale nikakva prava što se tiče javnog života. U početku je stvarala pod pseudonimom Vladimir Šumski. Najprestižnija djela je napisala u hladovini vile Brlićevac na Brodskom vinogorju. Vila danas nosi titulu zaštićenog spomenika kulture. U Republici Hrvatskoj i svijetu Ivana je priznata kao jedna od najznačajnijih književnica za djecu, ali iz njenih djela mnogo toga mogu naučiti i odrasli. Čudnovate zgode šegrta Hlapića predstavljaju temelj u razvitku hrvatskog dječjeg romana. Njena djela su prevedena na sve važnije svjetske jezike. Svojim originalnim i kreativnim pristupom oblikovala je umjetnički svijet i izraz po kojem je postala trajno prepoznatljiva. Osobito je karakterizira spretno stvaranje harmonije između fantastičnog i realnog svijeta. Često je bila uspoređivana s velikim svjetskim piscima poput Andersena i Tolkiena. Postala je prva žena u povijesti koja je primljena u Jugoslavensku akademiju znanosti i umjetnosti (danas Hrvatska akademija znanosti i umjetnosti). Dakle, u vrijeme kada žene nisu bile „podobne“ za pisanje, ona je svojim radom inicirala promjenu koja je bila nužna u svijetu.

Abstract (english)

This diploma thesis is written on the life and literary creation of Ivana Brlić-Mažuranić. Her growth, development and self-realization as a mother and writer are shown chronologically. Ivana comes from a prominent civic family named Mažuranić. Someone who doesn’t know much about her life and struggles would think that she lived comfortably and without any worries, when actually deep down she experienced the restraints of her own desires and ideals. She primarily wanted to achieve peace of mind. Therefore, this paper combines the collected knowledge about her way of life, the painstaking achievement of success and the possible reasons for the tragic end. She proved herself as a writer in the literary period of Croatian Modernism, when women had no rights regarding public life. At the beginning of her career, she wrote under the pseudonym “Vladimir Šumski”. Her most prestigious works were written in the shades of Villa Brlićevac, in the vineyards of Brod. Today, the villa bears the title of a protected cultural monument. Ivana is recognized as one of the most important children's authors in the Republic of Croatia and worldwide. However, adults can also learn a lot from her works. “The Strange Adventures of Hlapić the Apprentice” represent the foundation in the development of the Croatian children's novel. Her works were translated into all major world languages. With her original and creative approach, she shaped the world of art and the expression by which she became permanently recognizable. Her work is especially known for the deft creation of the harmony between the fantastic and the real world. She was often compared to the greatest famous writers like Andersen and Tolkien. She became the first woman in history to got accepted into the Yugoslav Academy of Sciences and Arts (the Croatian Academy of Sciences and Arts today). Therefore, at a time when women were not considered as appropriate for writing, through her work, she initiated the change that was necessary in the world.
