Abstract (english) The socioemotional development of a child's life significantly influences the formation of their personality. Recognizing and understanding one's own feelings, as well as the feelings of others, the ability to solve problems and conflicts, collaborate with others, and build secure and healthy relationships encompass the social and emotional aspects. To foster these skills, the environment plays a pivotal role by creating a safe and encouraging atmosphere that nurtures a happy, confident, empathetic, and competent child. Teachers are key players in a child's environment. Through active listening, creating a pleasant and positive classroom environment, and selecting appropriate teaching methods, teachers can promote students' socioemotional development. In this regard, play is essential, as it encourages learning, exploration, and emotional resilience, leading many educators to recognize it as a vital method in teaching. In addition to socioemotional competence, linguistic competence is also important for a child's development. In the Croatian language classroom, it can be nurtured through various language games. These games stimulate language learning, foster creativity, independence, and self-confidence, while also creating a dynamic and creative learning environment. This study was conducted in a third-grade class of an elementary school in the Krapina-Zagorje County. Seventeen students participated in the research, which aimed to explore the usefulness of language games in Croatian language instruction. The study sought to determine which language games were most interesting to the students, how the use of language games during Croatian language classes affected students' self-evaluation, social and emotional development, and reading habits. The obtained results reveal those students self-evaluated most positively in the domain of language and communication. The research confirmed that incorporating language games into Croatian language instruction has a positive impact on students' social and emotional development, as well as their motivation to read books. The study highlighted that "Unusual Professions Game" and "Meditation" were the most intriguing games for the students.
