Abstract (english) The system of signs and symbols is present everywhere around us, including children's art creation. It is precisely the language of symbols and signs that is that all people have in common. Using the symbols, we communicate nonverbally and children express themselves in visual art. There are many systems of symbols and some of the most famous and common are alphabets, numbers and colors. The meaning of certain symbols differs from nation to nation. Each symbol has an individual meaning, and the symbols can also be interconnected. The field of children's artwork can be characterized as fascinating and authentic. As early as eight months, a child begins with his own creativity. It benefits the child in many ways. It encourages the child's independence, individuality, autonomy, the right to self-expression and many other competences. Through children's art, children express their impressions, experiences and knowledge. Children use language to communicate, and that language has its own symbols. Symbols display contents from the child's consciousness. Visual language consists of graphic symbols through which children express their external or internal reality. The appearance of the first symbols occurs spontaneously, around the child's second year. Using the first symbols children depict universal content from life. The most common forms that appear in children's drawings are a tree, the sun, a flower and a house. Those graphic symbols are exactly the ones I chose for activities in the older kindergarten group. The aim of the activity was to discover, through the first phase, the children's understanding or vision of these symbols. In the second phase, I wanted to find out how different the works would be than the ones from the first phase after motivation and conversation about these symbols. Having compared the works from both phases, the differences are apparent. Most of the post-motivational works have more detail and colors, and are more creative and innovative than the first stage drawings.
