Abstract (english) The aim of this thesis paper was to discover which literary works from the curriculum are the most common in lower grades of primary school and how they are carried out considering instructions that the teachers give to their pupils. The history of required reading changed during years, however, only in small amount. The one that did not change is the purpose and the aim of reading. Pupils should read books to enrich their vocabulary, to have different views on life, to have fun with reading… Today’s children often have the aversion to reading and the only purpose of reading they see is getting grades. For the purposes of this research, the sample of 116 teachers was included in the research, divided into classes according to the class they work in. Using the method of electronic questionnaire, the ways of conducting reading in a current year were tested, as well as the list of required reading. The results of the research showed that the 72% of teachers still use the reading diary (notebooks for reading), in which they write notes about the books they have read. The pupils take notes according to the instructions given by their teachers, usually already at the beginning of the school year. The 57% of the teachers occasionally change the instructions for some readings, while only 39% of them always change their instructions. In addition, that would mean that students get new reading and instructions that are adapted for that specific reading every month. The list of required reading is listed in the curriculum next to the list of the offered reading. It could be read from the conducted survey that not all the teachers choose those readings. The representation of a particular reading differs, there are only 2 to 3 readings that are chosen by the majority of teachers, while the others are chosen by some other criterion and are represented in a smaller measure. For instance, the book for the first grade of primary school “Pale sam na svijetu” is represented 79% between the respondents, while “Kako se gleda abeceda” only 2,3%.
