Abstract

Prekomjerna tjelesna masa i pretilost poprimili su epidemijske razmjere u djece i mladih. Ovaj važan javnozdravstveni problem ugrožava zdravlje djece i njihovu kvalitetu života u odrasloj dobi. Cilj ovog rada je upozoriti na sve veći porast prekomjerne tjelesne mase i pretilosti u djetinjstvu. To je bolest koju je moguće prevenirati pravilnom prehranom i tjelesnom aktivnošću. Zdravstveni problemi zbog pretilosti mogu početi već u djetinjstvu, a pretilost utječe na cjelokupnu kvalitetu života i u odrasloj dobi pojedinca. Prevencija pretilosti treba biti usmjerena prema cijeloj obitelji. Aktivacijom cijele obitelji pretilost prestaje biti samo djetetov problem. Važno je istaknuti da genetiku ne možemo promijeniti, ali možemo ponašanje vezano za ishranu i tjelesne aktivnosti. Zdrava prehrana i tjelesna aktivnost trebaju biti stil života, a tome je potrebno poučiti djecu. Negativni trend porasta prekomjerne tjelesne mase i pretilosti kod djece je postao veliki problem suvremenog društva. Važno je sva istraživanja usmjeriti prema navedenom problemu koji za cilj imaju rano otkrivanje i prevenciju pretilosti.

Abstract (english)

Overweight and obesity have taken on epidemic proportions in children and young people. This important public health problem threatens the health of children and their quality of life in adulthood. The aim of this study is to warn of the growing increase in overweight and obesity in childhood and that it is a disease that can be prevented by quality nutrition and physical activity. Health problems due to obesity can start as early as childhood, and obesity affects the overall quality of life and into adulthood of an individual. Prevention of obesity should be directed towards the whole family because by activating the whole family, obesity ceases to be just a child’s problem. It is important to point out that we cannot change genetics, but we can change behavior related to diet and physical activity. Quality nutrition and physical activity should be a lifestyle, and this needs to be taught to children. The negative trend of increasing overweight and obesity in children has become a major problem of modern society. It is important to focus all research on this problem, which aims at early detection and prevention of obesity.
