Abstract (english) The job of a preschool teacher is a complex process that requires a lot of effort and time. Due to the growing workload of preschool teachers, non-compliance with prescribed working conditions, non-cooperation and misunderstanding by parents and professional associates, but also unpredictable and changing working conditions in general, preschool teachers face many stressful and crisis events through their work.
According to earlier researches, the preschool teacher profession has proven to be an extremely stressful occupation. Preschool teachers, due to the nature of their responsibilities, begin to experience their work as suffering and a cause of dissatisfaction, which can lead to preschool teacher burnout syndrome. Preschool teacher burnout syndrome occurs gradually as a result of long exposure to occupational stress, and manifests itself as chronic fatigue, emotional distancing from children, loss of control over their behavior, disorganization, weakening motivation for work, despair due to failure, cessation of hobbies, suffering from many diseases.
The aim of the research was to determine which stressful and crisis events preschool teachers encounter in their work and to compare the ways of coping with stress. The research was conducted in three kindergartens in the city of Varaždin. Ten preschool teachers participated in the research. For the purpose of conducting the research, a qualitative approach to data collection and analysis was used. Data were obtained through a semi-structured interview. The results of the research show which stressful and crisis events preschool teachers encounter, how they react to them, what are the key features of stressful and crisis events, how they deal with them and who helps them in this. The results of the research showed that preschool teachers encounter stressful situations more often (with some situations on a daily basis), while crisis situations occur less often. Regardless of the severity of the situation that occurs, preschool teachers strive to find the most painless solution for all.
