Abstract (english) This paper discusses the acquisition of a foreign language through movement or physical activity, and the emphasis is on the Total Physical Response (TPR) method. The aim of the thesis was to determine the familiarity of pre-service and in-service English language teachers with the Total Physical Response method and their motivation to use this method in their own teaching. The research was conducted in the form of an online questionnaire and the participants were 174 university students and teachers of English in primary schools in the Republic of Croatia. Based on the obtained results, it can be concluded that most participants are familiar with the TPR method, they use it frequently in teaching, and are satisfied with the learning outcomes after teaching with this method. In order to determine the factor structure of the questionnaire on the satisfaction of participants with the TPR method, a factor analysis was performed on the items of the questionnaire. Two factors were extracted: factor of positive attitudes and factor of negative attitudes. Furthermore, the participants’ reasons for using this method in teaching are stated, such as faster and easier memorization of curriculum content, dynamic lessons, high motivation of students, a positive impact on students' development and meeting their need for movement and play. On the other hand, the participants also mentioned some disadvantages of the method, such as the problem with discipline and loss of control, lack of space in the classroom, limited acquisition of certain curriculum contents and less suitability for older students.
