Abstract Rano djetinjstvo razdoblje je najvećih mogućnosti, a osobito u području govora. Djeca govor uče u svom socijalnom okruženju, aktivno izgrađujući vlastita znanja. Zahvaljujući svojoj urođenoj znatiželji, djeca stalno istražuju i pokušavaju razumjeti svijet oko sebe. Obitelj, odgojitelji i okolina za dijete moraju stvoriti toplu i poticajnu okolinu te mu omogućiti bogatstvo iskustava. Većina djece slijedi sličan put jezičnog razvoja pritom usvajajući govorne i jezične vještine.
Abstract (english) Early childhood is a period of greatest opportunity, especially in the area of speech. Children learn speech in their social environment, actively building their own knowledge. Thanks to their innate curiosity, children are constantly exploring and trying to understand the world around them. The family, educators and environment for the child must create a warm and stimulating environment and provide him with a wealth of experiences. Most children follow a similar path of language development while acquiring speaking and language skills. However, these skills appear in certain ranges because language acquisition is influenced by temperament, personality, but also the contribution of the individual child, the variety of games and social interactions. Therefore, it is extremely important to know how speech development takes place from the first days of a child's life so that we can consciously follow it and encourage it correctly. Each child is different and follows their own individual path of development. However, it is precisely on this path that they may encounter difficulties in speech and language development, and they can then pose a serious problem. Speech-language and other difficulties affect the success of the realization of educational, social and cognitive potentials, but also impair the quality of life. They also affect a child’s ability to participate in verbal interactions, and can sometimes completely disable it. The children then unquestionably need the help of experts. However, in order to facilitate communication in the everyday family and kindergarten environment and make it simpler and easier, parents and educators can resort to various methods and tools of communication. One such method is assisted communication, and it encompasses various communication modes that support communication between children and adults. It was the presentation of assisted communication and its application in preschool institutions in the Republic of Croatia that was the purpose of writing this paper and the starting point for the research presented in this paper. Through research conducted on a suitable sample of educators, we came to the realization of how assisted communication is implemented in practice, but it is also a kind of challenge for educators.
