Abstract (english) Need for play is characteristic for every child. Because of that reason, it is important to apply the game in primary education. The form of activity characteristic for physical education is called elementary game. All elementary games have a common primary goal, which is the development of motor and functional abilities using different natural forms of movement. Teacher is the first person who child meets when it is in transition to organised work in the physical education area. Elementary game, as well as other teaching activities, the teacher adapts to the students according to age, gender, interests, aims and tasks of the school lesson, the level of motor and functional abilities, space and aids. The correct game selection will positively affect students psychologically, physiologically and educationally. It is important to create a habit of everyday movement, and the game is the most appropriate way of achieving this goal at a younger age, also it can have a significant impact on reducing the negative impacts of today's lifestyle. Students will gain knowledge, many habits, skills and new experiences through the game.
In many literatures there are various divisions of elementary games, and in this theoretical work the division by place of execution is highlighted and the names and explanations of the selected games of each group are mentioned. It is important to point out that each game can be adapted to a certain age, but the person who selects and adapts the game must be informed about the characteristics of the developmental stage in which the children are located. This is why the education and creativity of teacher is important. The creative teacher will not only use literature when she/he is choosing games, but will also devise a new type of activity while respecting the pedagogical-methodical principles of the game.
